What is biotechnology? Is it something new? How is it applied in agriculture? Is it beneficial to farmers, consumers, and the agricultural, livestock, and fishery sector at large? Does it contribute to attaining food security and food sustainability? Why is it a subject of safety concerns and controversies? Is it bad to human and environmental health? Can biotech crop farming co-exist with organic farming? How can biotechnology be effectively communicated to different stakeholders?
In this course, trainees will be introduced to the fundamental principles of biotechnology, its scope and applications, issues and concerns, and fundamental concepts in communicating biotechnology.
