In this course, trainees will be introduced to the basic steps in developing biotech crops, the facilities required, and the regulatory agencies involved in assessing the safety of biotech products. What biotech crops are currently available commercially and what countries are adopting them?
The course features Bt eggplant developed by the Institute of Plant Breeding in UP Los Baños and biotech rice developed by PhilRice. After completion of this course, trainees must be able to understand how biotech crops are developed and conditions imposed by regulation during the development process.
