In this course, trainees will be introduced to science communication, in particular its role in communicating science to specific audiences, and in order to lead to specific outcomes. Of interest will be the role of science communication in crafting policy on agricultural biotechnology, and how agri-biotech can be communicated to policy makers; the role of science in culture, and the influence of culture on how science is practiced, and how these can be used to inform creative written output in science communication; and how science can be communicated in other ways. This course will also dispel misconceptions of science communication that can stand in the way of effectively communicating science.

After completion of this course, trainees must be able to discuss misconceptions about science communication and the audience, using concepts from communication as a social sciences field; write in a style other than technical writing, in order to craft policy papers that will address the information needs of policy makers on agricultural biotechnology and its future trends.
